Introduction to the north of Koh Samui

Bophut

The first step on the road is the village of Bophut. Located on the northern coast of the island, this charming little town is the center of a small bay that bears its name. In addition to a nice long beach, Fisherman Village (fishing village) made the reputation of the place. One of the most preserved and hamlets of the island, the fishing village has retained its old charm, with its old wooden Chinese style while regularly welcoming the tourists. The village center has some shops selling jewellery and merchandises of very good quality (clothing, ornaments, local objects, etc.). One of the most elegant parts of the island, Bophut has several boutique hotels and classy restaurants. In addition to the Thai gastronomy, gourmets will not be disoriented because of French and Italian restaurants offer international cuisine in a beautiful and peaceful setting. A festival that celebrates the fishing village takes place every year in August. For the occasion, many Thai music groups come to play and many stalls offering local dishes.

Quieter than other areas of the island, Bophut and natural charm attract mainly families. The star attraction remains the night market that takes place every Friday evening in the main street of the village. Fishing, diving and even go-karting can be carried on directly in Bophut. On the heights of the bay there is also a golf course.

Maenam

A few miles west of Bophut is Maenam whose main attraction is in its beautiful beach of 4 km long. Although some hotels, bungalows and spas are scattered along the beach, it remains relatively quiet and allows bathers to enjoy a calm and preserved environment. The are some restaurants and bars along the seafront.

Looking to the north, the long beach faces the famous islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. The little port in the center of the beach is a speed boats starting point that allows to travel on both islands. Maenam is also a great starting point to explore the jungle. Through paths and small roads that head to the center of the island, scenic walks amid lush vegetation are in the mountains of the island. On Thursday, a night market animates the village of Maenam.

Baan Thai and Baang Po

West of Maenam following the main road lies the localities of Baan Thai and Baang Po. Located northwest of the island, Bang Po is one of the quietest villages of Koh Samui. However, the town has a long beach and small coves scattering along the coast that will delight adventurers. Hotels, restaurants, and bars are often what gives the beach a wild atmosphere. The water here is deeper than elsewhere.
