Female Muay Thai

Muay Thai or the famous Thai Boxing has become more than just a regular sport, it is considered as one of the most richly cultural activities that both Thais and foreign visitors cannot miss.

Discover another aspect of Thai Boxing that has no longer only revealed its manly toughness–like Tony Jaa, but has left an activity requiring energy that makes your body and soul more beautiful. Surprisingly, this has become a big trend among women of all ages.

Muay Thai is considered as the Thai national sport and cultural martial art. It was developed several hundreds of years ago as a form of close-combat that utilizes the entire body as a weapon. Such art has structured in our society since Sukhothai Era, the very beginning of Thailand, and even took part in the World Wars as the French labelled it “Le Sport Orient” or “Siam Boxing.” Through training, military exercises, combat and loss of life; Muay Thai has brought not only pride but also become, in the meantime, a signature of the country.

Over the past 100 years, Muay Thai has significantly gained its popularity and begun to garner international recognition and exposure, such as being accepted as an Olympic sport.


With new training camps and gyms opening around the world, it has become approachable and demonstrated that anyone can do Muay Thai. Ideally, such powerful sport allows the sex equality to perform its definition as this boxing has become extremely popular among women of all ages. The best things are women are allowed to practice the exercise with men and to learn the martial art for self-defence.


We introduce to you our friend who visits Thailand and is constantly in love with Muay Thai. Claire De Kermenguy, 24, is a French intern in Bangkok since July 2015. She takes Muay Thai courses and practices at the gym every week.

  • What do you know about Muay Thai?

Muay thai is a martial art born in Thailand centuries ago. When you do Muay thai, you use every part of your body: fists, elbows, knees, and chin. That is why it is different from classic boxing, in which you only use your arms. Muay Thai, is recognized as a very effective striking base within MMA.

  • What do you think about Muay Thai?

I think it is a very good way to evacuate stress and tensions from everyday life. You have to really concentrate on what you are doing, and anticipate each movement from you partner. That is why it is not only physical but it is also a very psychological sport.

  • Why did you choose to participate?

I decided to participate to better know Thai culture, and to gain an amazing experience that I would probably never do in France. Muay Thai is a very good way to use all muscles in your body, to meet people, and to improve your health.

  • What does Muay Thai give you?

Muay Thay gives me well-being, and now I think I know better than in the past how to fight if one day somebody disturbs me!
