[Bangkok] Sathorn, Silom, and Riverside
The districts of Silom and Sathorn are locate in the southern part of Bangkok, bounded at their south end by the Chao Phraya River. These business, residential, and tourist areas found numerous Westerners and has been the longest established
Sathorn
The avenue Sathorn is defined between two parts north and south. The northern part of the avenue begins at the southern end of the immense Lumpini Park, a Central Park Bangkok offering a green area in the middle of skyscrapers. Sathorn Road is the most famous of the capital, served at the north end by the MRT (subway) and BTS (Skytrain) Chong Nonsi.
Sathorn The avenue is lined with office buildings, investment banks, very high-end residential buildings, and embassies (i.e. Australia and Singapore). The French Alliance (Alliance Française) is also established there.
The boundary between north and south Sathorn is located at the intersection dominated by an arch that provides access to the BTS Chong Nonsi Station. Near this arch, numerous office buildings are located, including the Empire Tower, one of Bangkok symbols. By 2015, close to the BTS station, the sky will be dominated by the Bangkok Mahanakorn project skyscrapers 310 meters to revolutionary architecture.
The southern part of Sathorn Avenue is served by the BTS Surasak Station. Near the station is Christian Hospital Saint Louis, and the school of the same name. South Sathorn is a prime location for office buildings and condominiums for its standings.
Yennakart and Nang Lynchee
Yennakart and Nang Lynchee are two streets, east of the Sathorn Avenue. It is accessed primarily by various sois (streets) on Sathorn Road, Rama 4 Road, or from Rama 3 Road.
It is easy to access to Yennakart and Nang Lynchee thanks to the proximity of Sathorn Road and the highway that balance the tranquility of these two streets, offering a typical close to the business district. Different types of houses are located there. Thus, a house is made of wood in traditional Thai style while the neighboring houses can be modern and luxurious style.
Silom
Silom Road is a street parallel to the avenue Sathorn serviced by both two stations (BTS Sala Daeng and Chong Nonsi) and the MRT station (Silom). Silom Road is a business district and a very famous for tourists. Thus, the Dusit Thani, at the northern end of the street, is known for being one of the first hotels to accommodate Westerners.
Silom Road itself is bustling day and night with a famous nightlife Silom road. Several restaurants and barb provide a friendly atmosphere in this street. In addition, some sois (streets) joining Sathorn Avenue are home to some French or Italian gourmet restaurants and to some condominiums and houses held high.
Continuing on its southern part, Silom street has become a more residential, especially in the small streets that leave from Silom Road. Some luxury hotels are also located along Silom Road.
Riverside (Saphan Taksin)
BTS Saphan Taksin station is located in the southern continuity of Sathorn Road along the Chao Phraya River. Located near the mythical river, it has attracted famous hotels to implant, such as the Shangri-La Hotel or the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Facing BTS station on the other side of the river stands the skyscraper “The River”, the second highest building in the city. It contains apartments and luxurious lofts with a view of the river that winds through the city.
Historic district that has kept its charm, the areas around the neighborhood of Saphan Taksin– named after the Thai King who founded Bangkok) are alive and animated.
Indeed, the BTS is a pier that serves many visitors along the Chao Phraya River. From this pier, easy access to the new outdoor shopping center called “Asian” provides an idyllic setting on the river for an evening shopping or a romantic dinner.
Thonburi
Thonburi is a historic district of Bangkok. It is indeed on this side of the river that the city was founded in the late 18th century before spreading dramatically to the opposite side. Today BTS Silom line crosses the river and released four stations.
The extension of this BTS line has given much dynamism to this part of the city. Thanks to the elevated train that goes into this side of the river, many condominium projects have emerged mainly along the BTS line.
While on the other side of the Chao Phraya River, the Thonburi district benefits from the immediate vicinity of Sathorn and Silom Road. Moreover, Thonburi is only 15 minutes from Siam to change line and go on to Sukhumvit Road.
