5 Artsy Spots Of Bangkok

1. JAM FACTORY

The Jam Factory is located in Thonburi, on the other side of the Chao Phraya River. This former warehouse has been renovated by Daungrit Bunnag, a famous Thai architect known for reviving abandoned places.

This first nugget-artsy houses both an art gallery, a bookstore, a cafe, a restaurant, a concept store (interior design and furniture design) and a huge garden with trees. Today Jam Factory has nothing to prove its hipster “DNA”. Cultural events are regularly organized so pay attention to the schedule. Both an urban centre and a place to live, it is THE trendy cultural event in the Thonburi district. Proof that revamped warehouses are popular!

2. YELO HOUSE

YELO House (meaning YorEverLiveOnce) is a former warehouse converted into an artistic and cultural laboratory that houses a trendy cafe, an exhibition hall, workshops, a tattoo parlour and the Hungry Me restaurant that mainly serves Thai dishes. This high street art venue in Siam just behind the BACC and next to Jim Thomson’s home aims to promote contemporary art as well as talented young Thai artists.

The building overlooking the canal is in itself a work of art: the architects kept the original structure. Modern, design and full of life, this secret little corner will not fail to seduce you.

3. BANGKOK ART & CULTURE CENTER

The Bangkok Art and Culture Center, also known as BACC, is one of Bangkok’s most famous art spaces. Here, the novelty is constant and the exposures changing. There are few art and design shops, workshops, concerts, cafes, photography stores and art-based bookstores. The BACC is located in downtown Bangkok near Siam Square opposite the MBK Shopping Center.

4. WAREHOUSE 30

Our fourth nugget is also a renovated warehouse. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the Warehouse 30 is the work of architect Bunnag Duangrit (same architect as The Jam Factory) and is directed by Rangsit Kasitranan, former editor and chief of Elle Decoration.

This avant-garde space of 4,000 m2 is a good mine for curious and trendy artists. Decorative shops, florists, local independent artists, cafes and restaurants, but also co-working space where creative people exchange ideas and share. This lively place is Bangkok’s new trendy hideaway. We applaud!

5. LHONG 1919

Opened in 2017, Lhong 1919 is a project initiated by Rujuraporn Wanglee, founder of an interior design company, who bought several old Chinese warehouses and shrines dating from King Rama IV (1851-1868). In total 6,800 m2 of co-working space, restaurants, design art shops, cafes, etc. Located by the river, Lhong 1919 has become the new headquarters of the hipsters and artists. Some walls have been intentionally left in the rough, the furniture is designed and the whole is bathed in an undeniable artsy atmosphere.
