KOH LIPE
In the far south of Thailand, near the border with Malaysia, is Koh Lipe, a small hidden island that is not yet prey to mass tourism. This piece of land is quite far from other Thai islands, and is distinguished by its crescent moon shape.
Koh Lipe, literally “paper island” in the local language, emerges a serenity that begins to be rare on the other very popular islands of the Kingdom of Siam. Very little touristic, the beauty of this corner of paradise is still wild and natural. No distributors or banks, no large buildings, no cars … the 700 inhabitants of Koh Lipe seem to have a quiet lifestyle, away from the bustling capital.
THE THREE BEACHES OF KOH LIPE
🦀 SUNSET BEACH
Sunset Beach is located northwest of Koh Lipe. Eccentric on the island, the passage is much less frequent. It is therefore the calmest beach of Koh Lipe, with very few boats mooring there. It seems that the sunset is sublime.
🦀🦀 SUNRISE BEACH
Sunrise Beach is located east of Koh Lipe. White sand, transparent turquoise water … the northern part is quieter because there is less passage of boats. Close to the beach is the fishing village, offering direct contact with the people of Koh Lipe who are very hospitable.
🦀🦀🦀 PATTAYA BEACH
Pattaya Beach is located southwest of Koh Lipe. It is the most animated beach of the three, because the most touristy. Indeed, you will find restaurants, cafes, bars, tourist agencies, massage places … everything you need for a perfect stay.
HOW TO GO TO KOH LIPE?
You can take a ferry or a speed boat directly from Phuket, Krabi or Koh Lanta, but only during the high season, from November to April. The journey costs about 2000 baht per person, so 50 €.
From Koh Samui, Koh Tao or Koh Phangan, you can inquire at a travel agency that will sell you a package ready.
Outside the high season, it is necessary to reach the port of Pak Bara to go to Koh Lipe.
Towards the end of the journey, the passengers are transferred in a taxi-boat, authentic means of transport of the Thai islands. A bit clumsy, but very unusual, the journey costs 50 baht, so about 1 €, and takes you to the beach of your choice: Pattaya Beach or Sunrise Beach. The sea is often agitated, sensitive people are advised to take a small medicine half an hour before departure.
To note, an environmental tax of 200 baht, or 5 €, is to be paid once on the spot.
WHERE TO SLEEP IN KOH LIPE?
The accommodations in Koh Lipe are not so many, so it is essential to book them in advance to avoid the risk of ending up with nothing. Most of them are type bungalows in wood or bamboo, so very natural and authentic.
As there is little housing, prices are significantly higher than other islands in Thailand. It must be at least 800 baht, so 20 € for a double room, per night.
HOW TO MOVE IN KOH LIPE?
Koh Lipe is only 4sqm big, so the best solution is walking. Indeed, you can go around the island in two hours.
There are no vehicles, apart from a few motorcycle taxis.
WHAT TO DO IN KOH LIPE?
🐠 SNORKELLING
Take your fins, snorkels and masks … the underwater fauna of Koh Lipe is very rich and reserves you many surprises. You do not have what it takes? No problem! Many hotels and inns on site offer equipment rentals at low prices.
🐚 SCUBA DIVING
If snorkelling is not enough for you, opt for scuba diving thanks to the many centers on the island. Descend lower to discover the beauty of the seabed and its inhabitants!
🍹 KOH LIPE WALKING STREET
The Walking Street of Koh Lipe promises you a perfect evening from start to finish. Start by choosing a place to eat among the many small restaurants that offer unlimited buffets and the island’s specialties: fish and shellfish barbecue. The dessert will not be very far either, with the few stalls selling pancakes, ice creams or other sweets.
Once satiated, you can take the opportunity to stroll along the street, and take a Chang or cocktail at one of the bars. If you are more of a shopping style, the many clothing shops are waiting for you with open arms.

What is the main activity when you are on a paradise island? Relaxation, of course! Far from everyday stress, lie on one of the three beaches of the island and polish your tan under the usual 40 degrees of Thailand!
