What it’s like to do an internship in Thailand?

Congratulations, you found an internship in the Land of Smile! But now, you don’t know how to manage things well. Don’t worry! Here are some tips and practical information on the procedures to follow to help you prepare your internship in Thailand…

How to find an internship in Thailand?

Tracks to find companies:

• Your school / university
• Your own contacts: family, friends, colleagues with contacts in Thailand
• Social networks: via LinkedIn, Viadeo or even Facebook groups
• Directly on the companies’ websites

Documents to send for an application:

• a CV in English
• a letter of motivation in English

Before your departure

Passport: Your passport must be valid at least 6 months after your departure date.

Visa: 2 possible choices:

• Non-immigrant Visa ED (education):  The validity of this visa is 3 months and will cost 80 USD. It is generally planned for unpaid internships.
• Non-immigrant Visa B (to work in Thailand): The validity of this visa is 3 months and will cost 80 USD as well. You can extend it in Thailand – Address: Government Center, Building B, N 120 Moo 3, Chaengwattana Road, Bangkok.

Recommended vaccines:

• Universal vaccines (DTPP, Hepatitis B)
• Hepatitis A (essential)
• Typhoid
• Rabies (advised for long and rural stays)

Duration of direct flight from Europe: approximately 11h15 to Bangkok

Time difference: +5h in summer, +6h in winter

Our tips and advices:

• For a round-trip ticket from Paris to Bangkok, you will have to buy it at least 25 weeks in advance before your departure to find tickets 5% cheaper than the average price (Source: Skyscanner).
• Bring a small Thai dictionary with you and learn a few words so you can communicate easier with the locals
• Travel lightly! Don’t overload yourself and carry only necessary stuff!

At your arrival

Phone: We highly recommend you to buy a local package as soon as you arrive at the airport or in town (about 300 baht per month).

Currency: Thai currency is “Baht” (1 euro = about 37 baht). It is preferable that you exchange your euro when you arrive in the country because the rate turns out to be more interesting. Avoid especially airports where taxes are high. Exchange offices in Bangkok: Kasikorn Bangkok, Super Rich, SBC Siam Commercial Bangkok…
